Crystal Swan (extra credit)

The movie Crystal Swan is about a girl who leaves Belarus to explore the house (music) culture of the US and in the process become a DJ. It is directed by Darya Zhuk and is set in the 90s. The movie captures her experiences as she goes to unplanned events because of mistakenly putting down someone else’s number on her visa form while also striving to pursue the dream of making it in America.

All in all, the was fun to watch. Not many dull moment. The scenes were shot really well but most of all I loved the colors. They juxtaposed a lot of blues and oranges and not just in the typical highlights and shadows kind of way. There was that contrast in colors between the background and character outfits, makeup, etc.
Throughout the whole movie it was mostly high-key lighting which I think represented her outlook of being hopeful and excited. Mostly consisting of medium shots following the rule of thirds contrasted with some wide and bird’s eye view shots.
